Cramond, The Almond and a Bridge! 15th January 2012
A full bus for this trip. It was a beautiful crisp day, which began with a walk across the causeway to Cramond Island where we enjoyed panoramic views. Then it was off along the riverside to Cramond Falls Cafe for hot soup and crusty bread which was just what we needed on a cold day. Thanks Norbert!
From there we walked along the river Almond, calling in at Cramond Bridge pub for a wee refreshment then onwards to South Queensferry to begin our walk across the Forth Road Bridge. As always, Norbert's timing was perfect and we enjoyed lovely views of the sunset from the bridge as we made our way across. A wee wander through streets of North Queensferry took us to our last watering hole of the day where we reflected on our trek by a roaring fireside. A perfect end to a perfect day. One of the best in my opinion.

A Day of Ups and Downs........ Gunshots and an Earth Hole.  29th January 2012

Quite a wet, damp start to the day. Beginning at Castlelaw Hill ,we skirted round the edges of the Mod Training Area where Red flags were flying and the sound of gunshots were ringing in our ears, (yes, gunshots). We came across the remains of an Earth Hole which was very interesting to see as it was very well preserved. After admiring the views from the summit following a very steep climb we then proceeded in an up and down fashion over the Pentland Hill range.
It was very chilly at height and 2 pairs of gloves and handwarmers were used! Lunch was spent huddled together admiring the views over to Arthurs Seat and Edinburgh Castle and a wee nod to Cramond Island which was our last trip.
A steep, (and tumbling for some!) descent down towards the Hillend Snowsports Centre then led us on to yet another cosy watering hole and a lovely log fire. An early finish and plans discussed for future adventures..
